During combat, you, your pardner, and your enemies can have different, ongoing effects.
On fire[ | ]
A character set on fire suffers damage each round, beginning at the amount of damage taken specified by the source and increased by 1 each round. Some bad guys have natural ability to set their enemies on fire. You can prevent this by becoming Patently Invulnerable, or remove the effect by using a full canteen.
For the player, there are several means by which you can inflict continuing fire damage. Some sources require the target to be flammable, an effect induced by using a can of kerosene.
Sources[ | ]
The following are sources of on fire damage.
- The Lava Fava spell can set the target on fire, for 1 damage at level 3, 3 damage at level 4, and 5 damage at level 5.
- An incendiary bullet will cause 3 damage of on fire from a successful hit.
- A snake spleen inflicts 3 on fire damage, if the target is flammable.
- Wearing infernal leather boots allows Bull Stomp to inflict 5 damage of on fire from a successful hit.
- Wearing an infernal leather hat causes 5 damage of on fire from a successful hit.
- The smoking gun causes 5 damage of on fire from a successful hit.
- The infernal leather lasso inflict 5 damage of on fire from a successful hit.
- A sulphur match inflicts 10 on fire damage, if the target is flammable.
- Crazy Pete's Lantern Bash skill causes 10 on fire damage, if the target is flammable.
- Using flaming bullet oil causes 10 on fire damage
- Using extra-flammable bullet oil causes 10 on fire damage
- Holding a 5 ball results in 5-25 points of fire damage from a successful hit.
Poisoned[ | ]
A poisoned character suffers a fixed amount of damage each round from the poison effect. Some bad guys, mostly being snakes, have natural ability to poison their enemies. You can prevent this by becoming Patently Invulnerable, or remove the effect by using a patent emetic.
For the player, there are several means by which you can poison an enemy. Well, except unguliths and skeletons, which are immune to poison.
Sources[ | ]
The following are sources of poison damage. Note that if you have the Expert Poisoner perk, the damage done is multiplied by 3.
- The Snakewhip skill poisons for 1 to 5 damage, depending on the skill level.
- The repurposed cult dagger inflicts 3 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- The muck-clogged blunderbuss inflicts 3 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- The toilet pistol inflicts 5 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- The fang-gloves inflict 5 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- The plunger inflicts 10 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- A basic venom vial will inflict 5 points of poison damage on the target.
- A chemical bullet will inflict 5 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
- Using venomous bullet oil will cause 10 points of poison damage on the target.
- Using incredibly venomous bullet oil will cause 10 points of poison damage to all targets.
- Using extra-venomous bullet oil will cause 15 points of poison damage on the target.
- Holding a 6-ball results in 5-25 points of poison damage from a successful hit.
Disabled[ | ]
Characters can be disabled (or stunned) during combat, preventing them from acting for a fixed number of rounds. As with other negative combat effects, this can be prevented by the universal panacea, Patently Invulnerable.
Sources[ | ]
The following are means by which an enemy may be stunned.
- Susie Cochrane's Lasso skill can be used to disable an enemy for 1 round. This can only be done once per fight.
- The Dark Howdy skill can be used to disable an enemy for 1 round. This can only be done once per fight.
- The level 3 version of the Vampiric Yodel skill will disable an enemy for 1 round.
- The level 5 version of the Menacing Moo skill will disable all enemies for 1 round.
- The Haymaker skill will disable an enemy for 1 round at levels 1 and 2, 2 rounds at levels 3 and 4, and 3 rounds at level 5.
- The lasso combat item can be used to disable an enemy for 2 rounds.
- A thick leather rope can be used to disable an enemy for 3 rounds.
- A smoldering leather lasso can be used to disable an enemy for 3 rounds.
- An infernal leather lasso can be used to disable an enemy for 3 rounds.
Invulnerable[ | ]
- Some bad guys are invulnerable, and cannot be damaged by any means until a specific condition is reached.
- Note that bad guy invulnerability is different from the potion effect of being Patently Invulnerable. The latter applies to you, and only protects you from certain effects, while bad guy invulnerability is total.
Insubstantial[ | ]
- Some bad guys are insubstantial. This property reduces the amount of damage they take from any single attack by a bad guy-specific amount.
